I’m becoming my mom and I’m okay with it.

I love my mom and moms in general just for being moms. Kudos to the mothers out there; your job is hard as fuh.

As of late, I’m noticing how much I have in common with my mother; the radiant, loving, sarcastic Esther. She's one of the kindest souls I know, she birthed me. She's also a fashionista in her own right. Every time I go back home to Minnesota, she reads me the same rights, “put all my things back where you found them.” I really cannot blame her because I was/am a real life version of that little girl who wears her mom's oversized heels, bra, and smeared red lipstick for a pastime. Now I’m old enough to wear my own bras, but pieces of my mom are the only way my wardrobe is complete. Her throwaways are now some of my most reliable and durable pieces. We definitely have differing tastes at times but her style is a huge influence on my eye and I didn’t even try to give her this power.

For instance, I remember watching my mom curl her 90s pixie cut. She'd take small pieces and clamp them curly in her Helen of Troy curling iron. It was like a science. Little did I know this sleek doo would be the style I’d rock for 6 years of my adult life. I remember when she bought this epic Tommy Hilfiger jean skirt in like ‘98. I was pretty young, but I remember feeling like she was the coolest mom in the world that day. I would have died to have one just like it.

When I graduated from college something changed. It was like my mom felt bad that I was carrying a purse that looked like it had been run over by a car. All of a sudden I had access to a plethora of items that seemed to be untouchable at one time. She betrothed to me a Monsac tote which was my purse for 4 years until a hole formed and the lining came loose. Needless to say, the bag did me good. Another staple item from my mom is the pair of black heeled boots I found in the garage. They caught my eye every time I passed them, this year I finally dusted them off. I wear them most days of the week. My favorite though, so with the times. I once expressed my frustration over not being able to find a cute mini backpack. She casually mentioned that she had one. I was shocked because had I known this my eyes would have been set on that bag years ago. She emerged from her closet with an adorable 90s maroon leather mini backpack by Nine West. I almost passed out, it was kismet.

I promise I'm not really much of a material girl (half true). I guess I'm just grateful, man. I'm lucky to be associated with such an epic giveaway pile. I'm lucky I'm becoming my mom.
